The actions of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres are becoming an obstacle to the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. This was announced at a briefing on February 18 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"The Secretary General is clearly acting in excess of his authority, and in addition to exceeding his authority, he is acting against the settlement of the conflict," Zakharova said.

The diplomat also called the approaches of the UN leadership to the legal aspects of the Ukrainian conflict "blatantly biased," and Guterres' statements going beyond his administrative functions. She added that the relevant statements are also being broadcast to a wide audience in clear violation of the norms and principles enshrined in the UN Charter.

Gutterisch reported on January 29 that the principle of self-determination of peoples allegedly does not apply to Crimea and Donbass, unlike Greenland. He noted that this conclusion was reached after careful consideration of the situation in the Office of Legal Affairs.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on January 30 called Guterres' statement about the inapplicability of the principle of self-determination of the peoples of Crimea and Donbass, unlike Greenland, deeply erroneous.
