On Thursday, February 19, Moscow will be covered by the Balkan cyclone, which will bring heavy snowfall. This was announced on February 18 by Evgeny Tishkovets, a leading specialist at the Phobos Weather Center.

"50% of the monthly snowfall rate will fall on Moscow on Thursday! The biggest snowdrifts will grow all winter! A record height of snow cover is possible," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

It is noted that the snow cover will grow by 29-34 cm, reaching 80 cm by Friday morning. This will be the largest indicator since the beginning of winter and will double the climatic norm of 39 cm. Meteorologists do not rule out that the records of 1966 (64 cm on February 19) and 1994 (72 cm for the whole month) will be broken.

Snowfalls will begin at 06:00 Moscow time and will intensify by the middle of the day, accompanied by a blizzard and reduced visibility to 1-2 km. The wind is south-easterly, gusty, up to 10 m/s. The air temperature will range from -10 to -13 degrees at night, and it will warm up to -5 degrees during the day.

On February 9, Tatyana Pozdnyakova, chief specialist of the Meteonosti news agency, said that it is worth expecting the onset of a climatic spring closer to the end of March — it is at these dates that the average daily temperature will become positive. Pozdnyakova stressed that severe frosts should not be expected this year: the peak of the cold snap usually falls in late January – early February, and temperatures similar to those observed in early February are no longer predicted.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
