A man was detained near Irkutsk for trafficking jade worth 5 million rubles.
In the working village of Markov, Irkutsk region, a man was detained who is suspected of trafficking jade weighing more than 6.5 tons worth about 5 million rubles. This was reported by the main directorate (GU) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the region.
"In the Irkutsk region, police detained a suspect in the illegal trafficking of jade for almost 5 million rubles. Operatives seized 128 jade stones weighing more than 6.5 tons," the department's Telegram channel said.
It is noted that the suspect kept seven stones weighing more than 1.5 tons on a friend's land plot and 121 stones weighing more than 5 tons in a rented garage. According to the person involved in the case, he got the stones from a friend.
During the investigation, it was also revealed that the suspect lives in the territory of the Russian Federation illegally.
A criminal case was opened on the fact of the crime under Part 2 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("The commission of a transaction involving knowingly illegally extracted amber, jade or other semiprecious stones, as well as their illegal storage, transportation or shipment in any form, condition, except for jewelry and household items and scrap of such items, committed in on a large scale").
Employees of the Main Directorate for Economic Security and Anti-Corruption of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, together with law enforcement officers of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, stopped the illegal trafficking of precious metals on October 20 last year. According to preliminary information, the suspect purchased gold from unidentified persons and melted it into ingots.
