The Ministry of Defense talked about the purpose of using Starlink by some units.
Russian units in the area of the special operation used Starlink satellite communication terminals to mislead units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and strike at their rear. This was announced on February 17 by the head of the Main Directorate of Communications of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Major General Valery Tishkov.
According to the military commander, the use of captured or captured enemy communications equipment was of a specific nature.
"The use of enemy communications equipment at the front was used only by individual units and primarily to mislead the enemy, as well as to strike deep into it," Tishkov explained on Rossiya-1.
At the same time, the general stressed that the Russian combat control system is completely independent of foreign technologies. The main control points and officials are provided with modern communication services exclusively of domestic production.
"The combat control system is functioning steadily and ensures the control of troops and forces at the front," the head of the communications department added.
Experts note that the use of the enemy's communications infrastructure for disinformation purposes is an element of complex electronic warfare and operational camouflage, allowing to reveal the enemy's positions and disorganize its logistics.
Due to the shutdown of the Starlink satellite communication system, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) lost a platoon of the elite Skala regiment in the Dnipropetrovsk region on February 10. The message said that the platoon had disappeared.
