The Ukrainian militants stationed on the eastern bank of the Oskol River south of Kupyansk-Uzlovoye found themselves in difficult conditions due to a lack of supplies and the difficult situation on the contact line. The Russian Ministry of Defense published the testimonies of prisoners of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on February 17.

Significant sanitary losses related to hypothermia and frostbite are reported. Ukrainian militants are forced to be housed in unheated dugouts and trenches, partially flooded with water and mud, without adequate heating and hot meals; at the same time, any attempts to start a fire are allegedly quickly detected from the air, and the position is attacked.
