A heavy snowstorm and almost zero visibility led to the closure of the Murmansk–Teriberka highway. Due to the bad weather, traffic was completely paralyzed, hundreds of cars and about a thousand tourists were temporarily blocked on the road.

"We drove 40 meters away from the column from Teriberka. And there is no way further! It's impossible to talk," said one of the tourists.

According to him, due to the strong wind and snow, passage became impossible even for off-road vehicles, and the two-lane highway turned into a narrow snow-covered section. As the guide Alexey Renzhin noted, the passage was blocked by passenger cars, which is why special equipment could not quickly reach the stranded.

Local residents helped tourists to wait out the bad weather by organizing hot meals and overnight stays at the school and cultural center. Some tourists, fearing to miss flights, tried to leave the village by alternative means — in particular, they ordered private helicopters, the cost of which reached 50 thousand rubles.

It is specified that on the night of February 16, the road was partially cleared, after which hundreds of cars were able to leave the snow-covered area.

In November last year, it was reported that several regional highways were blocked in the Murmansk region due to a severe snowstorm. Passage was closed for all vehicles on the roads of Kola – Serebryanskie HPPs, the motorway access to Teriberka and Zapolyarny – Salmiyarvi. Traffic is restricted for trucks on the Mishukovo –Snezhnogorsk and Snezhnogorsk–Gadzhievo highways.
