The Interior Ministry called a way to prevent password hacking by fraudsters
Using a complex password with a length of 12 characters significantly reduces the risk of hacking. An important element of security is the combination of letters of different registers, numbers and special characters. This was reported on February 14 in the Telegram channel of the Department for the organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
"To protect yourself, it is important to use complex combinations of 12 characters long with letters of different case, numbers and special characters," the message says.
Attackers use various methods, including automatic password brute force, where the program checks thousands of options per second, starting with simple ones. They also use a selection of likely combinations, including popular passwords, names, dates of birth, and simple combinations such as qwerty or 123456. Passwords that are associated with the user's personal information are vulnerable.
UBK also drew attention to the danger of phishing, when attackers do not crack the password, but receive it from the victim through fake sites that copy the design of official resources. It is recommended to check the page address and avoid questionable links.
Using the same password on multiple services poses a particular threat. In case of data leakage from one resource, attackers can gain access to other accounts. UBC reminds that passwords should not be repeated, and two-factor authentication should be used for important services.
The agency also warned about social engineering methods, when fraudsters convince a user to voluntarily provide a password. Typical examples of such attacks are calls and messages asking you to confirm your data or install an application from an unverified source. In such situations, it is important not to fall for the tricks of scammers and stop contacting them.
On the same day, MTS Defender analysts reported that on the eve of Valentine's Day, intruders actively called lonely Russians. According to experts, an elderly Muscovite woman received the largest number of calls. According to analysts, the attackers tried to reach her over 2,000 times.
