Lavrov named priority points of cooperation between Russia and Burkina Faso

Military-technical cooperation remains one of the highest priorities for Russia and Burkina Faso. This was announced on February 12 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

"Cooperation in the military and military-technical spheres, the fight against terrorism, and other threats that unfortunately persist in this part of the African continent also remains our top priority," he said.

The Foreign minister added that military-technical cooperation with all states from the Sahel alliance, which in addition to Burkina Faso also includes Mali and Niger, is also important for Moscow.

Lavrov said that the Russian side would sign a number of bilateral agreements with representatives of the West African state who arrived in Moscow on an official visit. These "fundamental" documents, as the minister explained, will become the "foundation" for further building strategic relations between the two states.

He said that the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation, which was agreed upon by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Burkina Faso leader Ibrahim Traore, could begin its work this year. He added that on the Russian side, this mechanism will be headed by Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev.
