An unknown person opened fire and took people hostage in a school located in southern Thailand. This was reported by the Khaosod newspaper on Wednesday, February 11.

"The perpetrator, a man about 18 years old, stole a gun from a policeman and rode to school on a motorcycle, <...> then he broke into the school, <...> where two shots were fired, as a result of which there were wounded," the article says.

The Reuters news agency reported that the attacker is currently holding the students of the educational institution hostage. According to Khaosod, there may be about 300 children in the educational institution.

Currently, as noted, the school grounds are cordoned off. Law enforcement officials who arrived at the scene developed a plan to regain control of the situation. It is emphasized that the attacker entered into negotiations with the police and allowed them to evacuate the wounded director to a medical facility, but at the moment refuses to release the rest of the people.

On the same day, CBC News reported nine deaths in the shooting at Tumblr Ridge High School in Canada. It was noted that eight students died at the scene, and the ninth died in an ambulance. The perpetrator of the crime, as it was emphasized, was also found dead — his death occurred from "self-inflicted injuries." About 100 people were evacuated from the school building, of which 25 were examined for possible injuries.
