The Almaz Capital venture fund of Russian billionaire Alexander Galitsky turned out to be involved in major projects to support the Ukrainian economy after its launch. This follows from the open data of the Ukrainian Venture Capital Association (UVCA).

We are talking about a series of grants under the Support Ukrainian Startups NOW program, which, according to UVCA publications, were allocated in March, May and July 2022. Among the recipients in one of the tranches is Black Mark Ammo— a manufacturer of cartridges.

According to Izvestia, Almaz Capital was named on the UVCA website as "one of the first sponsors" of the program along with "tech entrepreneurs from the USA." Galitsky is listed as a member of the UVCA supervisory Board, not on the current version of the association's website, but in a downloadable presentation about the organization discovered by Izvestia.

In addition, Izvestia drew attention to the statements of the fund itself: the Almaz Capital international website says that since 2014, the fund has stopped investing in companies with ties to Russia and positions itself as a long-time supporter of Kiev, involved in the management of UVCA. It also claims that the fund has invested more than $50 million in more than 15 companies with Ukrainian founders or teams.

In Russia, Alexander Galitsky's name has been in the spotlight in recent days due to the high‑profile suicide of his ex-wife Aliya. On February 7, she committed suicide in a temporary detention facility in the Moscow suburb of Istra. A day earlier, she was arrested in the case of extortion of over $ 150 million from Galitsky. According to investigators, she demanded money from her ex-husband, and otherwise threatened to publish information discrediting him.
