The United States suppresses competitors by unfair methods, imposing sanctions against Russian oil companies. This was stated on February 9 by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in an interview for the international network TV BRICS.

"The West does not want to give up its once dominant positions. Moreover, with the advent of the Donald Trump administration, this struggle to suppress competitors has become especially explicit and open. <...> They say, we must dominate the energy sector, we will limit competitors. Completely unscrupulous methods are also being used against us — they prohibit the work of Russian oil companies," the Russian Foreign Minister noted.

According to Lavrov, Russia remains open to cooperation with the United States, but the Americans themselves create artificial obstacles.

"We are simply forced to look for additional secure ways to develop our financial, economic, integration, logistics and other projects with the BRICS countries," the minister stressed.

He also added that the BRICS initiatives are not being put forward "in defiance" of the United States, but to create independent mechanisms from Washington's brutal control.

Earlier, on February 5, Lavrov pointed out the inconsistency of the US actions with statements about cooperation with the Russian Federation. The minister stressed that the United States prohibits other states from buying Russian oil and natural gas, forcing them to switch to their own.
