In the Netherlands, the Labor Inspectorate has launched an investigation into the possible exploitation of Ukrainian refugees at the Ibis Styles hotel in Arnhem in the east of the country. This was reported on February 6 by the Dutch NOS TV channel.

"At the Ibis Styles hotel in Arnhem, about twenty refugees and a group of Ukrainian workers without valid work documents were hired to clean for very low wages. <...> Experts call this human trafficking and exploitation. The Labor Inspectorate has launched an investigation into these violations," the article says.

According to the broadcaster, some of the illegal workers were searched for "on the street" by intermediaries who, according to the publication, were associated with the German AHR Clean. It is noted that those hired received from €3.5 to €4.5 for cleaning the room, and some of them did not receive payment at all.

"We consider this to be a very serious case. People were actively recruited with promises to pay salaries and help with paperwork, but then they were deceived," said Anna Ensing, a representative of the Fairwork human rights organization.

Novum Hospitality, which manages the Ibis Styles hotel, announced an internal audit and pointed to the contractor, the German holding Ö&I Clean Group, which, in turn, attracted the AHR Clean company. The company said that applications for work permits had been submitted for some of the employees, but they had not yet been issued.

Last year, on December 2, the Dutch News newspaper wrote that the Dutch government was going to close the centers for housing Ukrainian refugees in the near future. It is noted that currently about 75% of Ukrainian citizens are in these centers in the Netherlands.
