Passenger car imports by individuals increased by 55% in Russia in January

The import of passenger cars by individuals in January 2026 increased by 55% compared to the first month of last year and reached 35.2 thousand units. This is 74% of the total volume of passenger cars imported into the country in January. Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, told about this in his Telegram channel on February 6.

In total, 47.8 thousand passenger cars were imported to Russia in January, the figure decreased by 7% year-on-year. The volume of imports of new cars by individuals tripled to 11.4 thousand units.

The share of cars with engines up to 160 hp increased to 63.7%. The most popular model was the Mazda CX-5 crossover, which leads by a wide margin and holds a share of 22.8% (this model accounts for the fourth imported car). Next in the ranking are the Skoda Superb and Kia Seltos, the Zeekr 9X and the Nissan Qashqai.

In the segment of used cars with left-hand drive, the volume of imports increased by 40%, to 11 thousand units. 90.5% of all have a power of up to 160 hp. The most popular are Toyota Corolla, Audi A3 and A5, as well as Tharu and Golf.

Among right-hand drive vehicles, the import volume amounted to 12.8 thousand units, an increase of 18%. Three Honda Freed, Stewart and Fit models became the leaders here. The expert noted that cars with a capacity of over 160 hp are now practically not transported from Japan, the share of such cars in January was less than 1%.

Earlier, on February 5, it was reported that in January 2026, imports of new and used passenger cars to Russia turned out to be one of the lowest in the last few months. Last time, the volume of imports was lower in February last year, when it amounted to about 35 thousand units.
