Lavrov called Merz's actions preparations for war
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on February 5 that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz was preparing his country for war.
"Firstly, he (Merz - Ed.) lifted constitutional restrictions on military spending. And then he said that all this was necessary in order for Germany to once again — I emphasize this word — once again become the main military force in Europe. <...> In practice, what he is doing is preparing for war," Lavrov said in an interview with RT on Diplomatic Worker's Day.
The Russian Foreign Minister stressed that such actions by the chancellor clearly "reflect his mentality and the direction in which his thoughts are going."
On January 20, Lavrov, commenting on Chancellor Merz's anti-Russian statements, said that it was necessary to remember what the arrogance of the German leadership had led to several times in history. He noted that the goal of inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia, although it no longer sounds so often, nevertheless, by all indications, remains in the minds and plans of European leaders, first of all.
