Baku court sentences ex-head of the former unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) Araik Harutyunyan is sentenced to life imprisonment. This was reported on February 5 by the AZERTAC news Agency.

"According to the verdict, the accused Arayik Harutyunyan was sentenced to life imprisonment," the publication says.

It is noted that the state prosecution also requested a life sentence for Harutyunyan.

Harutyunyan was arrested in October 2023 by the Azerbaijani special services. He was found guilty of a number of serious charges, including terrorism and "waging aggressive war," he adds.Газета.Ru ".

Earlier, on January 9, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan suggested that Azerbaijan abandon its mutual claims. He presented a list of proposals "on establishing long-term stability in the world and the region." The day before, Pashinyan said that Yerevan had sent Baku proposals on two uncoordinated points of the draft peace treaty.

In October 2024, it became known that the National Assembly of Armenia ratified the provisions on the delimitation of the border with Azerbaijan in the first reading. 67 deputies voted for the adoption of the draft. They assume that disputes between the republics will be resolved not by military means or military tools, but on a special platform.
