Magnetic storms of a planetary scale have begun on Earth. This was announced on February 5 at the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the IKI RAS.

"The onset of planetary-scale magnetic storms is being recorded. At the moment, the level is G1 (weak storms), but an increase to the level of G2–G3 is possible during the day," the Telegram channel says.

According to scientists, these storms are a common reaction of the Earth's magnetosphere to exceptionally high solar activity. The immediate cause was the largest X8.1 class solar flare in the last year and a half.

A maximum class X flare occurred on the Sun on February 2. The ICI of the Russian Academy of Sciences also noted that signs of a large mass release were observed in the outbreak. The active center was located at an angle of about 25 degrees from the direction of the Earth. The laboratory clarified that the release could affect our planet. Earlier, the IKI RAS also announced the occurrence of magnetic storms.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
