It is impossible to get enough vitamin D, even if you are often exposed to the sun. The fact is that its production from the sun occurs only when the skin turns red, and slows down as soon as a tan appears. Olga Shuppo, the scientific director of the Grand Clinic network of immunorehabilitation, adaptive and preventive medicine clinics, told Izvestia on February 4.

"In addition, we must not forget about the reasonable restriction of exposure to direct sunlight. Excess ultraviolet light poses a serious risk of getting skin cancer. Restrictions on the time spent in the sun reduces the efficiency of the synthesis of this vitamin. Also, with age, the skin's ability to produce this vitamin weakens, so it is impossible to compensate for the deficiency only due to the sun. This is a myth," the doctor said.

Vitamin D, she says, can be obtained with food.: It is found in raw egg yolk, some mushrooms, cheese, cottage cheese, butter, as well as in fermented dairy products, fatty fish and seafood. However, it will not be possible to fill the deficit only through a full-fledged diet. Modern, industrially manufactured food products are depleted in vitamins and minerals — there is practically no food enriched with vitamin D.

In addition, for example, with chronic inflammation or stress, vitamin reserves will quickly deplete. The fact is that they cause oxidative stress, to get rid of which the body must have a large amount of antioxidants — one of the most powerful, acting as a free radical blocker, is vitamin D.

"It is important to remember that in case of vitamin D deficiency, only a doctor can prescribe the regimen and dosage of the drug. If necessary, it is better to make a choice in favor of liposomal forms of vitamins — they easily pass through the membrane cellular protection and are resistant to oxidative processes of the gastric environment," concluded Shuppo.

Science Focus magazine reported on January 24 that vegetable oils are more beneficial for the heart than butter, despite the latter's popularity among adherents of natural nutrition. Vegetable oils rich in mono- and polyunsaturated fats help reduce the level of "bad" cholesterol (LDL) and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
