More than 70 fishermen were rescued from a detached ice floe on Sakhalin
The rescue operation to evacuate fishermen from an ice floe in the Sea of Okhotsk has ended. More than 70 fishermen were rescued. This was announced on February 4 by the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Sakhalin region in its channel in the MAX messenger.
"The rescue operation on Sakhalin has been successfully completed. Another 28 people were evacuated from the ice floe with the help of a boat. A total of 71 fishermen were rescued," the ministry said.
There are no casualties. 22 people participated in the rescue operation and 11 pieces of equipment were involved.
Earlier that day, in the Sea of Okhotsk, near the village of Starodubskoye, ice movements tore off an ice floe that formed a crack up to 6 m wide. The fault cut off a group of fishermen at a distance of about 800 m from the shore. Employees of the state inspection on snowmobiles immediately arrived at the scene. Rescuers quickly ferried people across the rift.
