Denmark is rapidly militarizing and increasing the number of weapons, the rationale for such actions is to prepare for an allegedly possible future war with the Russian Federation. This was announced on February 4 by Russian Ambassador to Copenhagen Vladimir Barbin.

"A long-term program is underway to accelerate the militarization of Denmark. The number of armed forces is increasing. Purchases of various types of weapons are being carried out at a furious pace," he told RIA Novosti.

According to the diplomat, the ideological justification for such actions is preparation for a possible future war. As the ambassador explained, Denmark believes that after the end of the Ukrainian crisis, Russia could allegedly launch an attack on European countries.

"The defense potential in the Arctic, including Greenland, is being strengthened. Denmark's missile and air defense system is being created. Financing has been allocated for the construction of new frigates and other ships," the Russian diplomat said.

Ben Hodges, the former commander of the US armed forces in Europe, said on February 2 that Europe was already at war with Russia, even if it was not officially recognized. According to him, European countries should accelerate their preparation and adaptation to the new security reality.

Since December 2025, Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stressed that Moscow has no intention of attacking other states and going to war with Europe. According to him, Russia is currently operating in Ukraine "surgically," but in the event of an attack by European countries on Russia, everything will be different.
