- Peskov called the absence of the START Treaty extremely negative for strategic stability.
It will be very bad for strategic security if Russia and the United States remain without a Strategic Offensive Arms Reduction Treaty (START Treaty). This was announced on February 3 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
"For the first time, the United States and the Russian Federation, the two countries that possess the world's largest nuclear arsenals, will remain without a fundamental document that would limit and impose control over these arsenals. We believe that this is very bad for global security, for steric security," he said at a briefing.
In September, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced Russia's readiness to adhere to the START Treaty restrictions for another year after February 5, 2026. In turn, the American leader called Russia's proposal on the START Treaty a good idea.
