The operation to liberate the settlement of Toretskoye in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) took place in several stages, with the scouts being the first to gain a foothold in the building. The servicemen of the 102nd Guards Motorized Rifle Regiment of the Center group of forces told Izvestia about this on February 3.

"We sat down, made plans, competently developed routes, and along these routes, small groups stealthily, imperceptibly moved towards the goal. We looked from the air and stamped our feet. If the route allows, they started trampling the track," said Oleg Lozovoy, commander of the assault platoon.

It is noted that Russian intelligence officers were the first to enter the settlement. This was facilitated, among other things, by bad weather, as strong winds and snowfall interfered with the operation of enemy unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). In this regard, on the contrary, it is customary to call such weather at the front "good".

"We went in about this kind of weather, as it is now. There was a snowstorm, visibility was poor, the scouts did not work much for the enemy. We got there quietly. Well, the only thing is that FPV drones — they were. But they ran into shelters, hid somehow by running, and carefully moved forward after a certain distance," recalls Dmitry Akimenko, commander of the reconnaissance and assault squad.

As a result, the scouts were able to take up a defensive position between two houses and were secretly in the village for about a week. This allowed us to get a more complete picture of the situation in Toretsky before the assault, to know exactly which house the enemy was in and in what quantity.

The next stage of the operation to liberate the settlement was the accumulation of forces. Russian military personnel, one or two at a time, secretly entered the settlement to scout positions. After the start of full-fledged clashes, artillery joined the fighting, which began to cut off the supply routes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) with its strikes.

"Their ice campaign lasted almost a month. A month of terrible cold and constant threat from the air. And in these difficult conditions, they proved to be stronger than the enemy. No one from the Armed Forces of Ukraine left Toretsky," summed up Izvestia correspondent Valentin Trushnin.

On January 31, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that the Russian Armed Forces had liberated the settlements of Petrovka in the Zaporizhia region and Toretskoye in the Donetsk People's Republic. According to the agency, the liberation of Toretsky was carried out by units of the Center group. They also destroyed two mechanized, jaeger brigades, marine brigades, defense brigades and the National Guard of Ukraine in this area.
