On February 2, a large-scale patriotic action "Dedicated to the Heroes of Stalingrad" took place on Mamayev Kurgan, during which two 80—meter ribbons, the Stalingrad and St. George, were unfurled and carried. The action is timed to coincide with the Day of the defeat of the Nazi German troops by Soviet troops in the Battle of Stalingrad.

"The participants carried two 80-meter ribbons. These are Stalingrad and St. George. Symbols of victory, symbols of the Great Patriotic War and the Battle of Stalingrad. The participants are more than 350 people, including employees of the Treasury, Rosstat, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and the tax service. Plus, these are, of course, schoolchildren, students, unarmymen, cadets, and volunteers. And they all went through this together, all with one and friendly wall," said Sergey Rogov, head of the department of the city's center for patriotic education "Victoria".

The action began on the Avenue of Poplars, from where the participants moved out in two columns, carrying ribbons fluttering in the wind. Along the way, residents of the city joined the procession, who helped maintain the canvases.

"It was very exciting to touch the symbol of our victory, the St. George and Stalingrad ribbons. And when you carry it not just in some place, but at the main height of Russia, you feel proud, you feel confident for your country," Nikita Glazkov, a youth specialist at the Victoria Center for Patriotic Education, shared.

The final point of the route was the square of Those Who Stood to the Death. There, the protesters honored the memory of the victims with a minute of silence.

Earlier in the day, a flower-laying ceremony was held on Mamayev Kurgan in Volgograd in honor of the 83rd anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Stalingrad. The event was attended by the governor of the region Andrey Bocharov, veterans, government officials, law enforcement officers and volunteers of public organizations.
