Volunteers of the Young Guard of United Russia movement in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), together with soldiers of the Pyatnashka international brigade, laid flowers at the monument to the Victims of Fascism. The solemn event on February 2 was timed to coincide with the Day of the defeat of the Nazi troops in the Battle of Stalingrad.
Before the ceremony, the activist of the movement read out a letter to the defender of the hero city of Stalingrad, and after that, a historical recording was made by announcer Yuri Levitan announcing the Victory.
"We gathered in our Leninsky district and laid flowers at the Eternal Flame to pay tribute to the memory of those millions of victims who laid down their lives defending our Homeland. There is an eternal flame here — and this is one of such memorable places of our republic in our capital," said Sergey Dobrovolsky, the head of the movement.
He added that the Battle of Stalingrad is an important part of Russian history, and many films have been made about it. As noted by Anastasia Kudryavtseva, an activist of the movement, the youth of Donbass should remember and honor such dates.
On January 27, the Victory Museum in Moscow hosted the All-Russian action "Spark of Hope", dedicated to the Day of the Complete Lifting of the siege of Leningrad. The commemorative event began with a minute of silence in honor of the feat of the inhabitants of the besieged city. At the end of the action, thousands of sparklers were lit, symbolizing the memory and continuity of generations.
