American entrepreneur Elon Musk's SpaceX company has sent a request to the US Federal Commission to launch up to 1 million satellites for artificial intelligence training. This was reported on February 1 by Bloomberg with reference to the text of the appeal.

"SpaceX is requesting permission to launch up to 1 million satellites into low—Earth orbit in order to realize Elon Musk's latest grandiose idea of deploying data centers in space to perform complex computing tasks in the field of artificial intelligence," the material says.

According to the text of the appeal, the company decided to increase the number of its own satellites in orbit in order to "meet the explosive growth in demand for data caused by AI." It is noted that the system, which is planned to be deployed in space, will be cheaper than its counterparts on Earth.

"The launch of a million satellites functioning as orbital data centers is the first step towards creating a Kardashev II—level civilization capable of harnessing the full power of the Sun while simultaneously supporting artificial intelligence—based applications," the company said in a statement.

On January 25, a SpaceX rocket launched another group of Starlink Internet satellites from 25 mini-satellites into orbit. The rocket was launched from the SLC-4E site at the Vandenberg base in California.
