Global oil prices declined after rising in early 2026 amid the withdrawal of US President Donald Trump from plans for possible strikes against Iran, Reuters reports.

Brent crude futures fell 3.4% to $64.25 per barrel. Nymex crude oil prices fell 3.4% to $59.89 per barrel.

The price drop followed Trump's announcement that he had been informed of a decrease in violence during protests in Iran and the absence of executions.

At the same time, the price of gold fell to about $4,500 per ounce, after gold prices rose to a record $4,642.72 per ounce on January 14.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said at a meeting with ambassadors of other countries that the Iranian authorities had taken control of the situation with mass protests in the country.
