The German trade union Ver.di has called on employees of municipal transport companies to go on strike throughout Germany. This was reported by the Tagesschau newspaper on January 30.

"On Monday (February 2 — Ed.) there will be no buses and trains running across the country. Passengers should expect traffic disruptions," the article says.

The authors clarify that Ver.di is calling for strikes in order to put pressure on employers in the next round of negotiations on higher bonuses and better working conditions for all transportation workers in Germany.

In Spain, the SEMAF train drivers' union announced a general strike in the railway sector on January 21 after two train derailments. SEMAF demands that those responsible for the safety of the infrastructure be held criminally responsible, as well as the resumption of traffic in Catalonia, where the crash occurred the day before, only after providing sufficient safety guarantees.
