The Finnish Radiation Safety Center (STUK) recorded a slight excess of the norm of radiation in air samples, but there is no threat to public health, the Reuters news agency reported on January 30.

"The concentrations were very low and posed no danger to people or the environment," the Center said.

STUK stressed that the identified radioactive substances are not of Finnish origin and are not related to the operation of local nuclear power plants, but it has not yet been possible to explain their origin.

In May 2025, it was reported that a hydrogen leak in Finland disrupted the operation of the second power unit of the Loviisa nuclear power plant. It was noted that the Finnish NPP power unit will operate at a reduced capacity for some time until the end of the repair of the generator heat exchanger. Within two days, the station was restored to normal operation.
