The number of domestic reindeer in the Kalarsky district is almost 2 thousand heads. The governor of Transbaikalia, Alexander Osipov, wrote about this in his social networks.

"Livestock growth is the best indicator that this knowledge and skills are being passed on to new generations," he said.

As the head of the region noted, reindeer husbandry remains the basis of the traditional way of life, culture and connection of the Evenks with their native land.

The authorities support the indigenous population of the North, writes ChitaMedia news agency. So, last year, in 2025, the Ministry of Agriculture allocated 3.6 million rubles to four communities to preserve the herd.

The Udokan Copper company also provides assistance to livestock breeders. She buys reindeer for communities, organizes ethnic gatherings and supports pensioners. The educational project "Young Reindeer Herder's School" has also been launched.

Earlier it was reported that the Nenets Autonomous District is preparing to launch a project to create a workshop for the deep processing of by-products of reindeer husbandry. Collagen will be produced from the bones, skins and horns of these animals.
