The media learned about the recruitment of Colombians by the Armed Forces of Ukraine

The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) continue to recruit Colombians into their ranks, despite Colombia's adoption of the UN Convention against mercenary activities. This was reported on January 29 by RIA Novosti, citing sources.

"Latin American mercenaries of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the Special Latin Brigade unit continue to recruit Colombians," the agency writes.

According to the newspaper, a Peruvian recruiter announced during a live broadcast on a social network that another group of Colombian mercenaries would fly to Ukraine in early February, and their pre-departure training camp was scheduled for February 1.

Against the background of an acute shortage of personnel, Kiev is increasingly attracting "volunteers" from abroad.

On January 4, captured Ukrainian militant Vladislav Zabolotny said that female mercenaries from Colombia were fighting as part of the Ukrainian Armed Forces units in the Sumy area. He noted that the Ukrainian command treated the Colombian mercenaries better than their own soldiers, although the Ukrainian Armed Forces expected the opposite actions.

A deputy from the ruling Historical Pact bloc, Carmen Felisa Ramirez Boscan, reported last December that over 300 mercenaries from Colombia who acted on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine died in the special military operation zone. She added that these people joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine because of a reward of €5,000.

Alejandro Toro, a Colombian deputy from the ruling Historical Pact coalition, said on November 19, 2025, that 20 Colombian mercenaries were killed every week in Ukraine. He stressed that Colombia should not become an "exporter of death", but should be a country that exports security and knowledge.
