The middle of winter is a period when many parents, especially mothers, experience increased irritability and emotional exhaustion, taking it out on their own children. According to Irina Selivanova, a nutritionist and clinical health coach, such a reaction of the nervous system may be directly related to physiological causes - a deficiency of key nutrients that can be identified and corrected using laboratory diagnostics. She told Izvestia about this on January 29.

The expert recommends paying attention to several key indicators. The first is the protein level, since the nervous system consists of protein structures and when the index is below 74 units, the body lacks "building material". In this case, it is additionally worthwhile to take an analysis of the amino acid content in the blood for an accurate selection of the nutrition protocol.

"The second critical element is vitamin D, a powerful prohormone involved in hundreds of chemical reactions. Its shortage, especially relevant in the middle of winter, when summer reserves are depleted, directly affects nervous tension and requires regular replenishment, usually with the help of special drugs," explained the nutritionist.

Equally important is the level of iron, the main trace element of vivacity. According to statistics, up to 80% of the Russian population has latent iron deficiency anemia, and among women this figure may be even higher due to physiological losses. During diagnosis, it is necessary to check not only the total iron in the bloodstream, but also the level of ferritin, its reserve in the body. A reading below 40 may indicate anemia, even at normal blood levels.

Magnesium in combination with vitamin B6 plays a key role in calming stress receptors. To obtain a reliable picture, it is necessary to determine its content not in the bloodstream, but in red blood cells, which reflects the true stock. Magnesium L-threonate, which is able to penetrate the blood-brain barrier, is especially effective for affecting the nervous system.

"The daily norm of magnesium for women is 400 mg, but it is difficult to get it from food alone, so it makes sense to consider liposomal forms of mineral complexes. Local remedies also help replenish magnesium reserves, such as creams or evening baths with epsom salt, which promote a sound sleep and a calm awakening," the specialist concluded.

On January 21, Candidate of Medical Sciences, doctor, clinical pharmacologist Tatiana Molostova spoke about ways to raise iron levels in the body. According to her, a combination of red meat and foods with vitamin C, such as sauerkraut, helps to make up for iron deficiency, while compote does not bring vitamin benefits.
