Two people have died in a small helicopter crash near Wellington, New Zealand. This was reported on January 28 by The New Zealand Herald (NZH) newspaper, citing official sources.

"Two people died as a result of a helicopter crash in the area of Paekakariki hill (located on the territory of a rural settlement on the territory of the Northern Island. — Ed.) near Wellington," the article says.

Law enforcement officers received a message about the tragedy at 07:30 a.m. (January 27, 21:30 Moscow time), after which representatives of the emergency services began work at the accident site. Police Inspector Rene Perkins confirmed that the people on board the aircraft, the pilot and the passenger, were killed.

One of the witnesses of the incident suggested that the helicopter, which was trying to dump fuel before landing, could have been involved in shooting goats.

ABC News reported on January 27 that two people were killed in a light aircraft crash that occurred near the Australian city of Gold Coast. The aircraft crashed into a bush, and then, as specified, caught fire. 14 fire brigades were involved in extinguishing the fire, which later requested air support.
