A private house that burned down in Balashikha was illegally used as a hostel for unregistered foreign citizens. This became known on January 27 from the materials of the court case.

The building belonged to the Korneevs. In 2017, after an inspection, unregistered foreign citizens were found in it. The Reutov Prosecutor's office contacted the owners of the residential premises and demanded that the violation be eliminated.

"Officers of the police department in the city of Reutov identified four foreign citizens in the above—mentioned apartment No. 148, <...> who lived in a hostel (hotel) in violation of the migration registration procedure, namely, they did not have registration at their place of stay," the website of the Moscow Regional Court says.

However, the Korneevs did not comply with the requirements, after which the prosecutor's office filed a lawsuit in the case of inaction. Later, the couple filed an appeal in 2018, in which they stated that they did not know about the residence of illegal migrants.

According to the prosecutor's office, V.A. Zheludov, an individual entrepreneur, was responsible for the house, to whom the Korneevs provided the premises free of charge for the "safety of property."

According to the source of Izvestia, the owners could have several similar objects.

A fire in a private house in Balashikha became known earlier that day. Four people were killed in the incident, and another 15-year-old was hospitalized with carbon monoxide poisoning. The fire occurred in the early morning at about 04:40 Moscow time. The Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia has opened a criminal case under Part 3 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Causing death by negligence").

Later, a source from Izvestia reported that Cuban citizens had died in the fire at the hostel. The preliminary cause of the fire: the residents of the hostel burned a bonfire in the room, which later turned into a fire. Electricity in the building was cut off due to non-payment.
