- Young people in the DPR held a commemorative event to mark the anniversary of the lifting of the siege of Leningrad
An action dedicated to the 82nd anniversary of the complete lifting of the siege of Leningrad was held in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR). It was held by activists of the Young Guard of United Russia. This was announced on January 27 by Izvestia correspondent Evgeny Bykovsky.
About 100 young people took part in the event. They took a symbolic 872 steps, according to the number of days of the blockade. In addition, the young people were shown the daily ration of bread, which was given to residents of the besieged city — about 120 g.
"It is important that our youth do not forget this date. <...> The youth of Donbass are united with all of Russia, and all the bitterness of Russia, the inhabitants of Russia, is united with all youth," said Mikael Minasyan, deputy head of the Young Guard in the DPR.
He noted that many of the protesters were born and raised in combat conditions and had not seen a peaceful life. According to him, the youth of Donbass remembers the tragedy of Leningrad, reads books, watches films about those events and deeply empathizes with the hardships of the residents of the besieged city.
The action ended with the laying of flowers at the memorial in memory of the victims of the blockade.
The Governor of St. Petersburg, Alexander Beglov, yesterday conveyed to Russian President Vladimir Putin the gratitude of veterans for their support of initiatives to preserve the memory of the siege of Leningrad.
On the same day, a group of 30 veterans of the siege visited the Victory Museum located on Poklonnaya Gora in Moscow. Alexander Shkolnik, the general director of the complex, conducted an excursion for them, during which the guests laid flowers at the sculpture "Sorrow", observing a minute of silence in memory of the fallen residents and defenders of the city on the Neva.
