The State Duma proposed making homework for schoolchildren more creative

A reassessment of the existing homework system in educational institutions is required in order to reduce the learning burden on schoolchildren. This was announced on January 27 by the head of the State Duma Committee on the Development of Civil Society, issues of public and religious associations, Yana Lantratova.

"The opportunities for cheating that have opened up with the advent of the Internet are a challenge for the education system. In the coming years, we will have to figure out how to respond to this. Neural networks alone, which can generate anything, raise a lot of questions," TASS quoted her as saying.

Lantratova believes that blocking websites is ineffective. Instead, it is necessary to radically change the approach to homework and the learning process in general. She suggests shifting the main workload to schoolwork, and making homework creative, interesting, and less voluminous so that they serve to consolidate the material rather than being a burden.

In her opinion, the GDZ problem is just a symptom of a deeper need to review the homework system, taking into account modern technologies and redistributing the burden on students.

If a law is passed prohibiting certain content in the educational field, the decision to restrict it will have to be taken by the relevant authority competent in this field.

On the same day, Anton Gorelkin, First Deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, said that the Ministry of Education's idea of pre-trial blocking of websites with answers to school assignments and exams (completed homework, GDZ) looked redundant and could lead to negative consequences. According to him, problems in the field of education should not be solved through amendments to the Law on Information.
