The UK authorities intend to establish their own equivalent of the FBI, the National Police Service (NPS), which will investigate the most serious crimes in England and Wales, including terrorism, organized crime and fraud. This was reported on January 25 by The Guardian newspaper with reference to the head of the British Interior Ministry, Shabana Mahmoud.

"The government is creating a National Police Service — dubbed the British FBI — to combat organized crime, terrorism, and fraud," the publication says.

Mahmood acknowledged that the current model of the UK police is outdated, as it "was created for the last century."

It is noted that the head of the NPS will become the most senior British police officer. The article says that he will also be responsible for the introduction of modern technologies at the national level, including automatic face recognition systems.

On December 12 last year, the British authorities announced the creation of a new military intelligence service (MIS) in connection with the "increase in hostile threats." It was clarified that over the past year, the activity of intelligence work against the kingdom's Ministry of Defense has increased by more than 50%, thus "opponents are stepping up their efforts."
