Die Weltwoche says doubts in the EU are growing due to the conflict in Ukraine
There is a growing understanding in European countries that the continuation of the conflict in Ukraine leads to serious consequences for the entire continent. This was reported on January 23 by the Swiss magazine Die Weltwoche.
The article notes that the United States, under US President Donald Trump, was the first to distance itself from the Ukrainian agenda, and similar sentiments are gradually forming in Europe. According to the publication, European elites are increasingly thinking about the price of further support for Kiev.
"The understanding that Ukraine is a bottomless pit is gradually coming to Europe," the magazine writes.
The publication also points out that the problem lies not only in financial injections, but also in growing military spending.
"We are talking about absurd spending on weapons that are tearing up state budgets due to a senseless conflict," the publication says.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that Philip Pilknington, a columnist for The American Conservative magazine, spoke about the growing pressure from the US presidential administration on the European Union due to the refusal of European leaders to negotiate with Russia. In his opinion, Washington requires the EU to look for ways to end the conflict and build a new security system. The author also pointed out that the European strategy may be to prolong the fighting in the expectation of a change of power in the United States. At the same time, he stressed that such a position of the EU is both morally questionable and politically futile.
