Anti-ICE protesters locked themselves in the office of the mayor of San Diego
Five activists locked themselves in the office of San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria for several hours, demanding that local authorities stop cooperating with the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This was announced on January 23 by the local branch of the NBC television channel.
"Half a dozen people were taken into police custody on Friday after locking themselves inside the office of San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria for several hours... The protesters called their actions a sit—in," the channel said in a statement.
The activists barricaded themselves on the 11th floor and demanded that the city stop interacting with ICE.
Earlier, on January 18, it was reported that the Pentagon is preparing about 1.5 thousand troops of the 11th Airborne Division in Minnesota in case of an escalation of the situation with unrest related to the immigration operation. The US Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristy Noem, announced the launch of the largest immigration operation in the region, for which about 2,000 agents and officers were deployed.
