Light poles shone over the western part of Russia
On the night of January 24, bright pillars of light appeared over the western part of Russia, illuminating the sky.
An unusual natural phenomenon was observed in Voronezh, the Komi Republic, Kursk, Nizhny Novgorod and Samara.
It clarifies that ice columns are formed due to the reflection of light from ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere, creating the effect of luminous columns that can be seen from the ground.
Earlier in the day, Roman Vilfand, scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, said that very cold weather is expected in all regions of Russia over the weekend — up to -47 degrees. He noted that in the Southern Federal District on January 24-26, the temperature will be 6-12 degrees below normal.
