For 11th graders who, by mid-January, still have not decided on their future specialty and university, the situation is not a dead end — there is still time for an informed decision. The main thing, according to Victoria Podsukhina, a teacher and head of regional teaching at the educational company MAXIMUM, is to organize the coming weeks competently so as not to miss key deadlines and maintain room for maneuver. She told Izvestia about this on January 26.

"The first and most urgent step should be the selection of subjects for the Unified State Exam, as the application for participation is usually submitted before February 1. Even in the absence of a clear professional goal, it is recommended to choose a combination of exams that leaves a path to several related areas," she explained.

For example, the "core mathematics, Russian language and computer science" set provides access to most technical and engineering specialties, a combination of chemistry and biology leads to medicine and agricultural sciences, and history, social studies and a foreign language set the humanitarian vector.

"The next stage is the analysis and filtering of the collected data. It is necessary to discard the least attractive areas and make a shortlist of two or three priorities. You can systematize the information in the table by specifying the faculty, the passing grade of the previous year and the required USE," the teacher noted.

At the same time, as the expert emphasizes, the main problem now is not lack of time, but increasing anxiety, therefore, the choice of exams remains the primary task. The final decision on the university can be postponed until the results of the Unified State Exam are received.
