US President Donald Trump said that he invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to the newly created "Peace Council" because he wants to see people with power and control in the organization. He announced this on January 21 during a conversation with journalists on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

"We want [the Peace Council] to include all countries where people have control, have power," Trump said, adding that he considers the leaders of such countries to be "incredibly influential."

According to the American president, the organization's goal is to bring together all the world's influential leaders to discuss global issues together.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that Vladimir Putin thanked Donald Trump for the invitation to join the "Peace Council." The Russian president noted that the Foreign Ministry would study the proposal, consult with the allies and then give an official response. At the same time, Putin announced Russia's readiness to send $1 billion from assets frozen by the American authorities to the Peace Council.
