Serbian President warns of consequences of US-EU trade games
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on January 20 that trade relations and the game of duties between the United States and the European Union (EU) will affect the whole world.
"I do not believe that an agreement [between Europe and the United States] will be reached, I expect that tomorrow the President [of the United States Donald] Trump will make a very harsh speech, the opposite of what we've heard. The existing so—called proliferation effect will affect all of us, because this game of tariffs, this game of stopping trade," Vucic said on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos.
According to him, it is also "a game of trade control, the imposition of rules and the abolition of multilateral institutions."
"We need to look at how to continue working with both Europe and America. There are many difficult tasks, many problems," the Serbian leader said.
On January 14, Trump noted that US relations with Denmark are "good," but Greenland is necessary for Washington to ensure national security. Later, he imposed duties of 10% with the possibility of increasing to 25% in relation to a number of European countries due to the situation around Greenland.
In turn, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent called Europe's possible response to the US president's duties over Greenland an unwise step.
