Trump announced the imminent departure of Macron from the presidency
French President Emmanuel Macron is of no interest to anyone, as his term of office will end soon. This was stated on January 20 by the American leader Donald Trump, commenting on the unwillingness of his French counterpart to participate in the "Peace Council" on the Gaza Strip.
Earlier in the day, it became known that Macron intends to renounce membership in the "Peace Council". In his opinion, the actions of this body will go beyond the settlement of the issue in Gaza and cast doubt on the implementation of the UN principles.
"Did he say that [about participating in the Peace Council]? You know, no one needs him, because he will leave office very soon," Trump said.
In addition, Trump announced that he would impose 200% duties on French wine and champagne in order to force Macron to accept his invitation to the "Peace Council" on Gaza.
Earlier, on January 14, the Axios portal reported that the United States had sent invitations to a number of states to join the "Peace Council" on the Gaza Strip. According to the portal, the first meeting within the council may take place as early as next week. Trump is expected to chair the meeting. On January 15, the American leader announced that the formation of the "Peace Council" had been completed. He also added that, in his opinion, this is the greatest and most prestigious council that has ever been created.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced on the same day that Russian President Vladimir Putin had also received an invitation from the United States to join the "Peace Council" for the settlement of the Gaza Strip.
