French President Emmanuel Macron intends to renounce membership in the "Peace Council" created by US President Donald Trump to resolve the conflict in the Gaza Strip. This was reported on January 19 by Bloomberg, citing sources.

According to Macron, the actions of the "Council" go beyond the settlement of the issue in Gaza and call into question the implementation of the principles of the United Nations.

"Macron believes that the charter goes beyond Gaza <...> and raises serious concerns, especially about respect for the principles and institutional structure of the United Nations, which France considers unreasonable," the publication says.

Earlier, on January 14, the Axios portal reported that the United States had sent invitations to a number of states to join the "Peace Council" on the Gaza Strip. According to the portal, the first meeting within the council may take place as early as next week. Trump is expected to chair the meeting. On January 15, the American leader announced that the formation of the "Peace Council" had been completed. He also added that, in his opinion, this is the greatest and most prestigious council that has ever been created.

Later, on January 17, Axios correspondent Barak Ravid reported that the composition of the Gaza Strip governance council had not been agreed with Israel and was contrary to state policy. The office added that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructed Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar to contact US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on this issue.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in turn, said that Russian President Vladimir Putin had also received an invitation from the United States to join the "Peace Council" on the settlement in the Gaza Strip.
