- The New Movement 3 Festival will be held in Veliky Novgorod from May 28 to June 1.
The third festival of young cinema "New Movement" announces the dates and opens the acceptance of applications for participation in the Main Competition. The show will be held from May 28 to June 1 in Veliky Novgorod. Those cinematographers who have this first, second or third feature film will be able to apply.
Full-length feature films, the production of which was completed after May 1, 2025, can apply for participation in the Main Competition. Their timekeeping should be more than 54 minutes. Applications for participation are accepted until April 11 at: otbor@nd-fest.ru
The winner of the Main Competition, based on the decision of the jury, as last year, will receive the Award of the Governor of the Novgorod region in the amount of 1 million rubles.
New Movement is a festival of everything new: new directions, new names, new subjects, new themes, new vectors of development. Its goal is not only to support the creative pursuits of young filmmakers, but also to become a single space for showcasing the latest Russian cinema. The festival creates a territory for communication, exchange of experience and discussions that are interesting for both the general audience and the professional community.
"Veliky Novgorod is a land with a thousand—year history and a strong cultural tradition, open to new ideas, names and artistic searches. It is important for us that the New Movement festival of young cinema takes place here, on the Novgorod land. The festival is becoming a point of attraction for young filmmakers from all over the country, helping to discover new names and shape the future of Russian cinema. We understand that aspiring authors need not only creative, but also practical support. Therefore, the winner of the main competition, according to the decision of the jury, receives the prize of the governor of the Novgorod region in the amount of one million rubles. For young directors, this is a real opportunity to continue their professional career in cinema. The festival should become not a one—time event for the participants, but a reference point for further development, professional growth and new projects," said Alexander Dronov, Governor of the Novgorod Region.
The festival will once again host the Auteur Cinema Market, where young directors and producers will present their projects to the professional community: distributors, platforms, festival selectors and potential partners. Films that are in the final stage of production (filming period, post-production, finished in production) will be able to participate in the film market. To participate in the Film Market, applications and links to an excerpt (at least 10 minutes) must be submitted to the Organizing Committee of the Festival by April 11 at: filmmarket@nd-fest.ru
The general producers of the show are actor, director and producer Artem Mikhalkov, as well as producer Maxim Korolev.
"Our festival is not only about the opportunity for young authors to express themselves, but also about the search for a new driving force and new names that will develop the future of Russian cinema. New intonations, themes, genres and artistic techniques are being formed on the “New Movement”. And although the festival is still very young, it already feels and finds those important meanings, without which it is impossible to move forward," Mikhalkov said.
"One of the key objectives of the festival is not only to discover new names and give young directors a start, but also to help their films find their way to the audience. Therefore, in 2026, as part of the "New Movement", a film market will be held again, where authors will be able to receive specific industrial support. We strive to ensure that the festival does not become the final point, but the beginning of a full-fledged life of films by young directors," said Korolev.
For the first time, the New Movement festival was held in Veliky Novgorod in 2024. It is no coincidence that Veliky Novgorod, one of the oldest Russian cities, was chosen as the venue of the festival. It harmoniously combines classics and modernity and is open to new progressive ideas and trends. And its ideal location helps attract directors not only from the two capitals of Moscow and St. Petersburg, but also from all over the country.
The festival is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Novgorod Region.
The winner of the Second Festival of Young Cinema "New Movement" last year was the film "The Habit of sniffing fingers" directed by Vyacheslav Ivanov.
