Norwegians will receive letters of confiscation of property in case of war
Thousands of Norwegians will receive letters informing them that their homes, vehicles, boats and equipment may be confiscated in the event of military action. This was reported on January 19 by Euronews with reference to a statement by the country's armed forces.
"The requests should provide the armed forces with access to the resources necessary for the defense of the country in the event of war," the statement said.
It is noted that of the 13.5 thousand letters scheduled for distribution in 2026, two thirds will be repeated requests. Sending repeated emails is necessary because the request is valid for one year.
"In recent years, the importance of crisis and war preparedness has increased dramatically. Norway is in the most serious security situation since the Second World War. Our society must be prepared for crises, and in the worst case, for war," Anders Jernberg, head of logistics for the army, said in a statement.
At the end of November 2024, the authorities of Sweden, Finland and Norway began distributing booklets with instructions on how to survive in the event of a nuclear war or other unexpected crises to their citizens.
The Politico newspaper reported on January 17 that Marines from the UK are conducting extreme exercises at the Viking Camp base in northern Norway. According to the newspaper, in the spring of this year, it is planned to deploy about 1.5 thousand military personnel at the base. By 2027, the number of the contingent is expected to increase to 2 thousand people.
