The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will propose to the BRICS countries to link digital currencies to simplify trade and payments in the tourism sector. This was reported by Reuters on January 19, citing a source.

"India will host a summit later this year. If the initiative is adopted, for the first time a proposal will be put forward to link the digital currencies of the BRICS member countries," the article says.

It is noted that this initiative may cause irritation in the United States, which warned against any attempts to circumvent the dollar.

President of the United States Donald Trump has previously stated that the BRICS alliance is "anti-American" and threatened to impose duties of 100% on goods belonging to its members.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on December 4 last year that the possibilities of using national currencies for settlements in BRICS should expand. According to him, no one introduced the task of introducing a single currency in the BRICS. Putin noted that this should be a calm process.
