There were 281 road accidents in Russia over the weekend.
Over the past weekend, 281 road accidents were recorded on Russian roads, 36 people were killed and 346 injured in road accidents. 28 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on January 19 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
In the Loknyansky district of the Pskov region, a 39-year—old passenger car driver decided in the morning to skip an adjustable railway crossing at a forbidding traffic light on 3 km of the Priskukha — Bor - Shchenailovo regional highway, but collided with a freight train locomotive. The culprit of the accident and three of his passengers died in the accident.
The State Traffic Inspectorate reminded motorists of the importance of observing the rules of passage of railway crossings, since this maneuver is considered dangerous and requires the driver to focus and pay maximum attention. An analysis of accidents at railway crossings shows that such accidents most often occur at unregulated crossings, where drivers, not convinced of the safety of the maneuver, try to drive in front of a nearby train. Trying to gain a few seconds of travel, they often endanger not only their own lives, but also the lives and health of their own passengers, railway staff, passengers on commuter trains and long-distance trains.
In addition, over the weekend, 25 bus accidents were recorded on the roads of the Russian Federation, in which there were no fatalities, but 35 road users, including one child, required medical assistance. The cause of 16 incidents were traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles.
As a result of 93 accidents involving pedestrians, eight people were killed, and 87 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 12 child pedestrians, eight of whom were injured while crossing the roadway in unidentified locations. Of the total number of pedestrian incidents, 45 occurred at pedestrian crossings and 48 outside their area of operation.
29 accidents involving minors were registered, 36 young road users were injured, including 24 passengers. One child, a passenger in a passenger car, was killed.
So, in the Republic of Dagestan, on 24 km of the Buinaksk —Kizilyurt regional highway, a 52-year-old SUV driver drove into the oncoming lane in a prohibited place, where he collided with another passenger car driven by a 49-year-old motorist. As a result of the accident, the three-year-old son of the culprit of the car accident was killed, who, in violation of traffic regulations, was transported in the rear passenger seat without using a child restraint and a seat belt, as well as a passenger in the car of the second participant in the incident. The driver of the oncoming vehicle and the passenger of the SUV were hospitalized with injuries.
The State Traffic Inspectorate urged motorists to strictly observe traffic regulations and be more careful when driving, especially in the morning and evening.
"Remember that the life and health of your passengers depend entirely on the skills, driving experience, well-being and law-abiding behavior of a person behind the wheel. We also draw the attention of drivers to the strict observance of the rules for the safe transportation of children. Take care of your young passengers, preventing even the prerequisites for a possible tragedy," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for the Promotion of road safety and prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
Earlier, on January 19, it was reported that by the end of 2025, 9% fewer road accidents occurred in Moscow than a year earlier. The number of people killed in road accidents in the capital decreased by 15%, while the number of deaths of minors decreased immediately by 42%.
