Russians with green cards will be able to be interviewed for a visa
The State Department will continue to schedule appointments for applicants for an American visa, including for Russians who have won a green card. On January 19, the US Embassy in Russia commented to Izvestia on the procedure for the winners of the Green Card lottery. Already scheduled interviews are also saved.
"The applicants for immigration visas concerned can apply for a visa and be interviewed, and the Department will continue to schedule meetings with applicants, but no immigration visas will be issued. Existing meetings on immigration visas, as a rule, will not be postponed or canceled," the embassy said.
Last week, it became known that the United States will suspend the issuance of immigration visas to applicants from 75 countries, including Russia, for assessment in order to prevent the entry of foreign citizens who are likely to "become a burden to society." The decision will come into force on January 21.
On January 14, Fox News TV channel, citing an internal memo from the US Department of State, reported that the agency was suspending the processing of all visas for citizens of 75 countries, including Russia, as part of stricter control over applicants. It is specified that the decision on suspension will come into force on January 21 and will be valid indefinitely.
Earlier, on January 12, the US State Department reported that over 100,000 visas, including those issued to students and those held by foreign citizens who had problems with the law in the United States, were canceled.
