Since 2026, noninvasive prenatal testing has been included in the program of state guarantees of free medical care to citizens. This was announced on January 19 by Natalia Dolgushina, the chief freelance specialist of the Russian Ministry of Health on women's reproductive health.

"Pregnant women of medium and high risk of having a child with chromosomal abnormalities, according to prenatal screening of the 1st trimester, have the opportunity to receive this medical care under the compulsory medical insurance program," she said.

Dolgushina clarified that the study has been conducted since the end of the first trimester, since fetal DNA in most cases circulates in the blood of a pregnant woman in sufficient quantities for analysis. The study can be conducted in both single and double pregnancies, she added.

Earlier, on January 12, Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova announced that the Russian government had expanded the list of high-tech medical care for compulsory medical insurance to 15 new treatment methods. According to her, new methods will improve the quality of care for patients with kidney diseases, oncological, cardiovascular pathologies and diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.
