On January 16, Azerbaijan's state oil company SOCAR announced the start of natural gas supplies to Austria and Germany.

"Gas supplies to customers in Austria and Germany began in January 2026," the company's website says.

At the same time, the timing and volume of deliveries to SOCAR were not specified. In addition, the company noted that it continues to expand its gas sales activities in Europe and the Middle East.

On February 7, the speaker of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Georgy Tikhy, said that the country was working on the possibility of transit of Azerbaijani gas to Europe. Then he stated that Ukraine "sees the signals of the Prime Minister of Slovakia (Robert Fico. — Ed.)", but believes that the government of the country should have ensured in advance the diversification of resources, their supply and energy security.
